MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — With raw talent and a focus on authenticity, K4M is redefining what it means to be a true artist.

Kamarea Love, known professionally as K4M, is a recording artist who began his musical journey in 2020. Hailing from Midwest City, Oklahoma, he has steadily built his presence across major platforms like YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music, sharing his unique sound with listeners worldwide.

For K4M, music is more than a creative outlet—it’s a deeply personal connection rooted in his upbringing. Surrounded by a family of musicians, his passion for music developed early, inspiring him to pursue recording music as a career.

“Since I was young, I always liked making music, rapping and listening to music,” K4M said. “And then I come from a lot of musicians and a music-oriented family, so that kind of got me into it.”

Early on, K4M discovered his passion for music by seeing how people reacted to him. At the bus stop, he rapped over instrumentals. He observed the genuine enthusiasm and admiration that people showed for his talent. He pursued his music further and developed his passion into a career, motivated by those who were impacted by his music.

K4M’s steadfast love of music is what drives him. Over time, he refined his musical technique to create a unique sound that showcases his talents. K4M says that his enthusiasm and faith in his abilities motivate him to keep going after his goals.

“Then what makes me want to keep going is just like it’s something I’m very passionate about,” K4M said. “And I feel I developed my skill, but I noticed I’m very talented.”

K4M has always had the support of his community. From the time they first met at five years old until he began recording music, Jonathan Jackson, a Midwest City native and close friend of K4M, has witnessed K4M’s development. Jackson says that K4M’s music has a different feel and passion than those of other up-and-coming artists.

“What I’ve been noticing since I’ve been listening to his music and keeping up with his music career,” Jackson said. “K4M’s ability to just put raw emotion and uncut versions of what he feels into his music. That’s basically what makes him different from any other emerging artists.”

Making music is second nature to K4M. His process does not involve writing the lyrics before recording. However, K4M says he chooses the beat he likes and forms his music from then.

“My usual process is I usually play through beats and stuff first,” K4M said. Then I don’t really write, I don’t like to write as I go in basically. Punch in, so my process would be listening to a beat; pick one that I like, and then just go in.”

Jabari, K4M’s younger brother has witnessed his music-making process in person. He goes with K4M to the studio every chance he can get. Jabari says he loves being able to see his growth in making music.

“I’ve been to the studio with him, he definitely did grow a lot in the music. He can make a song quick,” Jabari said. “ He could take a long time to make a song, but I know once he took a long time to make a song, that’s one of the ones.

“Me getting you up every day talking about, let’s go to the studio, just because I want to see him in there and see you know I’m saying his progress. You know I’m seeing the progression on this path that he owns.”

K4M finds inspiration in both musical influences and personal relationships. He credits his early love of making music to his late grandfather, who was also a musician. Additionally, K4M says that his love for rapping was greatly influenced by artists like Future, whose work he appreciated from an early age.

“Who inspired me? One, I’d have to say my grandfather,” K4M said. “ He recently passed, but he was a musician, and that was somebody who made me really want to get into music.

“And then, two, I’d say I listen to Future. I took a liking to him at a very young age, and just how he’s been rapping since I was young really made me want to get into it as well.”

K4M would compare his journey so far to riding a rollercoaster. There have been many highs and lows for him, including times when he wanted to give up. Still, K4M says that his accomplishments and the individuals he has impacted inspire him to keep going.

“It’s a roller coaster, that’s what I would compare it to a lot of ups and downs for sure,” K4M said. “Times where you don’t want to, you might be thinking about quitting and giving up, but then I look back and just think of all the progress I made, all the people I reached from, just being from this area, and it’s people from all over the world, all over the United States. So that’s what kind of keeps you feeling to keep going.”

K4M’s cousin Jalen has also observed K4M's growth throughout the years. The change from utilizing a phone and earbuds to record music to working in a professional studio is incredible. Jalen says that since those early days, K4M has greatly progressed and created his own sound.

“It really all started about two, three years ago in Texas,” Jalen said. “ He was recording off the AirPod, I mean, the earbuds with the microphone in the closet in the other room, just recording music off his phone, until now, it’s crazy,” Jalen said. “Got his own sound, his own studio, and all types of stuff, he grew a lot.”

Jalen also had the chance to see his cousin K4M perform live.

“Seeing him perform for the first time was crazy,” Jalen said. “It was just like, that’s my older cousin in front of all these people who were just crazy.”

For K4M he would describe his first time performing live as crazy too. K4M says performing live gave him a momentum boost, with the crowd vibing to his music.

“That was a crazy experience because it was my first time performing, but it was like, that’s when it let me know I had a solid fan base,” K4M said. “People in the crowd, singing the songs, word for word, and it gave me a momentum boost that just made me feel good.”

However, K4M released its most recent project, Superior, in November 2024. K4M releases his 14-track album Superior through streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. Fan favorite songs like Mind Racing, Prevail, Triple Cross and 4 Eternity are featured on the album.

K4M spent a year working on the album. Originally intended to be titled Nearly There, he didn’t want to rush the album’s release. K4M says that after taking a break from the album, he decided to rename it to better represent his attitude.

“I was thinking about the name—I’m like, nearly there—I just took a step away from that name and thought, what’s the authentic name that I can name my album and just my current mind state and how I feel,” K4M said. “So that’s why I came up with Superior—it’s not me feeling I’m just better than anybody else. It’s just that’s how I see myself, superior.”

Jonathan Jackson says that his authenticity and commitment to himself separates K4M from other emerging artists.

“What makes him stand out the most is his lyricism—his authenticity is real—and I think that’s what people like most about him,” Jackson said. “He continues to be himself, no matter what anyone else says, always doing it for a better cause and for the people around him. He strives to not only make himself better but also to uplift those around him.”

However, since the beginning of 2020, K4M has learned a lot. Being genuine is one piece of advice that K4M says he would provide to someone who wants to pursue a music career.

“I would say do what feels good to you, don’t try to mimic anybody else. Stay as authentic as possible, because that stands out, whether you believe it or not,” K4M said. “You can go try to copy all your favorite people and it’s cool to have inspiration, but try to find your niche, and stick to it, develop it.”

For the time being, K4M wants to consistently improve his sound, staying as true and authentic to himself as possible. K4M says he wants to drop another project next year because of the positive reception to his last project.

“I actually want to drop another project, probably at the beginning of next year. I don’t really have a date, but I just want to,” K4M said. “ After the response I got back from this project, it just made me want to create another body of work, and I just want to get better.”
